UNC will play for its seventh consecutive ACC women’s lacrosse title.

Carolina avenged a regular-season defeat Friday afternoon in Charlotte by upsetting No. 2 Syracuse in the ACC semifinals, 15-9. The Orange had snapped UNC’s four-year home winning streak less than two weeks prior.

True freshman attacker Caroline Godine had a career day against the second-ranked Orange, scoring a hat trick twice over with six goals and adding an assist for good measure. Fellow freshman Marissa White added in a hat trick herself, proving the future of head coach Jenny Levy’s program is in more than capable hands.

Godine and White were cooking early, combining to score five of Carolina’s seven goals in an opening blitz. UNC held an 8-0 lead over the Orange before 20 minutes of game time had elapsed. White had already clinched her hat trick by the 12:33 mark of the second quarter. Godine clinched hers with less than five minutes to go before halftime to answer Syracuse’s first goal of the game.

UNC was never truly threatened after that initial surge, with the Orange only getting as close as 12-7 in the third quarter after a 4-0 run. UNC answered that with three unanswered goals of its own (two of which came from Godine’s stick) to ice the game.

The win sets up yet another high-stakes meeting with ACC top seed Boston College in the championship game on Sunday. It’s a rematch of both the ACC and national championship games in 2022, both of which Carolina won. The Tar Heels also decisively beat the Eagles earlier this season, 16-5 at Dorrance Field. Sunday’s matchup in Charlotte is scheduled for noon and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
