Carolina’s quest for a seventh consecutive conference tournament championship is off to a good start. UNC took care of business in the quarterfinals of the ACC women’s lacrosse tournament Wednesday night in Charlotte, handling No. 6 seed Clemson 16-6.

Nicole Humphrey and Carolina Godine each posted hat tricks for the Tar Heels in a dominant offensive effort, one which saw Carolina outshoot Clemson 37-16. The game was tied 1-1 after the opening quarter, but UNC hit the gas in the second and never looked back. The Tar Heels outscored the Tigers 7-1 in the period to blow the game open by halftime.

All-ACC freshman team honorees Kaleigh Harden and Marissa White each scored a pair of goals and graduate transfer Lauren Figura added two of her own. It’s the fifth straight game Figura has played in which she’s found the back of the net.

The win means Carolina still hasn’t lost a conference tournament game since 2015, though that run of dominance will be tested in Friday’s semifinal. It will be a rematch with No. 2 seed Syracuse, who defeated UNC in Chapel Hill and snapped Carolina’s four-year home winning streak on April 15. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and will be broadcast on ACC Network, with the winner advancing to the championship game on Sunday.
