Coming off a 20-1 season in which her team reached the Final Four, UNC women’s lacrosse coach Jenny Levy is already reloading her roster.
The program announced Wednesday that it was adding three transfers for the upcoming season: Andie Aldave from Notre Dame, Olivia Dirks from Penn State, and Sam Geiersbach from Richmond. Dirks has three years of eligibility remaining, while Aldave and Geiersbach have one.
“We are excited to welcome Andie, Olivia and Sam into our program,” Levy said in a release from Carolina Athletics. “They will be great fits with our team culture and style of play. I cannot wait to see each of them start to build relationships and chemistry both on and off the field with our returning team.”
Aldave set school records at Notre Dame for single-season draw controls and was named a first-team All-American in 2021. She also earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2019.
During her career at Richmond, Geiersbach scored 162 goals and dished out 98 assists, while being named 2017 Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year and 2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament MVP.
“We look forward to getting Andie and Sam acclimated to our program in all ways,” Levy said. “I know they will thrive in our environment.ย ย Both bring high IQs, skills and competitive fire, Andie to the middle of our field and Sam on the offensive end.
At Penn State in 2021, Dirks was named a second-team All-American, first-team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, while scoring 31 goals and causing 18 turnovers for the Nittany Lions.
“With (Dirks’) energy and aggressive style of play, she is a great fit for our program,” Levy said.
In addition to the transfers, the team returns eight of 12 starters from the 2021 season, and will attempt to win the program’s third NCAA championship.
