The No. 1 UNC women’s lacrosse team earned its 35th consecutive win at home and 24th consecutive win overall Wednesday night in Chapel Hill, defeating Liberty 18-6 at Dorrance Field.

Caitlyn Wurzburger gave an all-around performance against the Flames, leading the team in both goals (four) and assists (three) to register seven points. Reilly Casey also posted a hat trick with a pair of assists.

Five other Tar Heels scored at least two goals, including four reserves. Freshman attacker Kiley Mottice, one of several fresh faces in the Carolina starting lineup, also scored twice against the Flames for her first collegiate goals. Fellow freshman Marissa White, fresh off scoring five times against James Madison last weekend, scored once.

After a competitive first quarter which saw UNC trail 2-0 early, the Tar Heels hit the gas in the second, outscoring Liberty 7-1 in those 10 minutes to take a 11-4 halftime lead. Carolina then outscored the Flames 7-2 in the third and fourth quarters, winning the game going away. Sophomore goalie Alecia Nicholas made eight saves on the day, including six in the second half to keep Liberty out of reach.

Carolina hasn’t lost to a non-conference opponent at home since March 3, 2018. Ironically, the team’s next home game will come against the opponent that beat them that day: Florida. The No. 7 Gators will visit Chapel Hill on Saturday at noon looking to spring another upset. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network.
