Both UNC lacrosse teams were in action at Dorrance Field during the weekend, and both teams came away with comfortable wins. The women’s team cruised past No. 9 Clemson 18-5 Saturday, while the men trounced Jacksonville 20-7.

In the women’s game Saturday, Chloe Humphrey scored six goals and her sister Ashley dished out a program-record eight assists to help No. 2 UNC remain unbeaten in 2025.

Chloe Humphrey had secured a hat trick inside 18 minutes of game time, scoring her third goal at the 12:45 mark of the second quarter to give UNC a 6-0 lead. She added her fourth six minutes later, helping the Tar Heels to a comfortable 10-2 advantage by halftime. After Humphrey scored goals five and six in the second half, Nicole Humphrey put the finishing touches on the familial dominance, scoring UNC’s 18th and final goal with 13 seconds left on the clock.

In total, the three sisters scored or assisted on 12 of the 18 Tar Heel goals, including three which featured an Ashley-to-Chloe connection. Olivia Vergano also finished with a hat trick, part of an offensive attack which outshot the Tigers 20-10 in the first half.

The win is already UNC’s fifth on the season against a ranked opponent and third against an opponent ranked in the Top 10. The No. 2 Tar Heels are now 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in ACC play. Up next, they will visit Virginia Tech in Blacksburg Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The next day, the fifth-ranked men’s team had little trouble in a blowout win against visiting Jacksonville. Though the Dolphins got on the board first, UNC answered with five goals in less than eight minutes, two of which came from star sophomore Owen Duffy. Duffy would secure a hat trick by the end of the first quarter and reach the five-goal mark by halftime, when UNC lead 13-5.

Duffy put the finishing touches on his masterful day with a goal early in the fourth quarter. His six total goals nearly equaled Jacksonville’s entire team total. Four other Tar Heels scored twice, including Dominic Pietramala, who is still maintaining a slim advantage over Duffy for the team lead with 24 goals. Ty English, James Matan and Spencer Wirtheim also scored two goals.

Carolina is now 6-1 on the season, having won two straight games since taking its first loss. The Tar Heels will return to action when they visit High Point this coming Friday at 7 p.m.
