UNC women’s lacrosse head coach Jenny Levy, a three-time NCAA champion with the Tar Heels and 2022 world champion with Team USA, was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday. She is a member of the Hall’s Class of 2021, whose induction was delayed due to the pandemic.
Levy is in her 28th year coaching the Tar Heels, and is the only head coach in the program’s history. She ranks third among NCAA Division 1 head coaches with 395 wins and 40 NCAA Tournament wins, and her 13 Final Four appearances are tied for the most all-time. Ten of those Final Four appearances have come in the last 13 years.
Levy has won three National Coach of the Year awards, most recently in 2022 for leading the Tar Heels to an undefeated season and a national title. She is one of just five head coaches with three or more NCAA titles.
“I love being part of a group and part of a team,” Levy said. “That’s the thing I am most passionate about. I’m always very aware to enjoy those moments that we have with the team, that is special to that group.”
Levy was also an accomplished player, winning a national championship with Virginia in 1991. She is just the fourth woman in history to win an NCAA lacrosse championship as a player and a coach.
Also in the class is Steve Stenersen, who won the 1981 and 1982 national championships with the UNC men’s lacrosse program. Stenersen served as the CEO of USA Lacrosse for 23 years from 1998 to 2021.
Levy and Stenersen are now among nearly 450 other greats enshrined in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, which is located in Sparks, MD.
