The UNC women’s golf team will compete in NCAA regional action for the third straight season. The Tar Heels earned the No. 5 seed in the Auburn Regional on Wednesday.

Other notable teams joining the Tar Heels in the 12-team region are No. 1 seed South Carolina, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Oregon and No. 4 Georgia. No. 9 seed Miami is the only other ACC team in the region. UNC is looking to improve on its finish in 2023, when the Tar Heels were the No. 8 seed in the Pullman, WA Regional and finished ninth.

Carolina won three tournaments this season and reached the semifinals at the ACC Championship last weekend in Wilmington. Fifth-year senior Kayla Smith, a two-time All-ACC honoree, has earned two individual wins, while sophomore Megan Streicher has been the highest Tar Heel finisher in six tournaments this spring. Streicher’s stroke average of 71.13 this season is currently a school record.

The Auburn Regional will be contested from May 6 through May 8. The top five finishers in stroke play, as well as the lowest individual not on an advancing team, will advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, CA. Carolina has not reached the championship since 2017.
