First-year UNC women’s golf coach Aimee Neff is already hard at work filling out her staff for the upcoming season.

The program announced Monday morning it is hiring Emily Loftin, formerly the head women’s golf coach at Fresno State and Montana, to be an assistant coach at Carolina.

“I am excited to welcome Emily and her family to Chapel Hill,” Neff said in a release from Carolina Athletics. “Emily’s experience as a head coach, assistant coach and player will be invaluable. She is passionate about helping our program build towards new heights in contending for ACC and national championships.”

Loftin enjoyed success during her eight seasons with Fresno State, setting 26 scoring records, coaching two Mountain West Conference champions and winning three team events and six individual events. And last season, Loftin helped Bridget Thibault become the first Bulldog to advance to the NCAA Championship.

Her results on the course matched her team’s success in the classroom. Loftin’s players at Fresno State won 41 all-conference academic awards and earned perfect scores in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate for six straight seasons.

“I am excited to join the Tar Heel Family,” said Loftin. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with Coach Neff and grow Tar Heel Golf into a national contender. I can’t wait to get started.”
