Make it 16 straight victories to begin the 2020 campaign for the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team, as the Tar Heels earned a clean 4-0 shutout victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies in Chapel Hill on Sunday.

It was also the 32nd straight win for the Tar Heels (16-0, 4-0 ACC) at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in a streak dating back to last season.

After winning the doubles point against the Hokies (7-5, 0-5 ACC), UNC clinched the match with singles victories from Anika Yarlagadda (6-0, 6-2), Sara Daavettila (6-1, 6-3) and Alexa Graham (6-4, 6-3).

Prior to the match, the Tar Heels honored Wynn Burrus–a 21-year-old senior and Morehead-Cain Scholar who passed away suddenly this past September. Burrus was the captain of the Broughton women’s tennis team when she was a high-schooler in Raleigh.
