Despite opening the game on a 16-2 run Thursday night in Columbus, the UNC women’s basketball team allowed the Ohio State Buckeyes to slowly come all the way back for what turned into a 76-69 win over the Tar Heels as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Carmen Grande had 23 points to lead the Buckeyes (2-2), who also outrebounded UNC by a margin of 51-28.

All five Tar Heel starters scored in double figures for the second time this season–led by a team-high 15 from guard Stephanie Watts–but that would not be enough to overcome the advantage Ohio State built inside.

The Buckeyes had 44 points in the paint and scored 15 on second-chance opportunities.

UNC (5-3) led 33-29 at halftime, but it was in the second half where Ohio State was able to get out in front for good.

The Tar Heels will be back in Chapel Hill for their next three games, beginning Sunday when they host Maine at 2 p.m.
