UNC women’s lacrosse graduate Taylor McDaniels–who opted against playing this season with the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA–was selected Monday as the grand prize winner of the ACC’s Go Teach Tuition Giveaway.

McDaniels recently completed her undergraduate degree in human development and family studies, and now plans to pursue a master’s degree in special education.

In 45 games with head coach Jenny Levy’s Tar Heels, she scored 32 career goals.

By winning the grand prize, she receives $20,000 in addition to being one of 15 winners of $2,500 throughout the conference.

The ACC partners with the College Football Playoff Foundation to honor 15 student-athletes pursuing a career in education at the conclusion of their playing careers.

“The Atlantic Coast Conference has great respect for the teaching profession and we are proud to support our student-athletes in their desire to become future educators,” ACC Commissioner John Swofford said. “ACC student-athletes embody teamwork, understand the importance of collaboration and have gained significant life lessons learned from athletics. With these talents and their passion to educate, they will undoubtedly go on to positively impact the lives of their students.”
