Four players scored in double figures on Wednesday night to lead the UNC women’s basketball team to a 71-50 win over the Rice Owls in Myrtle Beach.
Sophomore forward Janelle Bailey led the way for the Tar Heels (8-4) with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while guard Shayla Bennett added a double-double of her own with 13 points and 10 assists.
Stephanie Watts added 12 points and Leah Church also chipped in 11 to the winning effort.
Strong defense helped the Tar Heels build a 33-16 lead at halftime, as they held Rice (7-3) to just 28 percent shooting for the game.
The win marks the third in a row for head coach Sylvia Hatchell and company as they approach the end of the non-conference schedule.
