On Saturday when No. 7 UNC takes the court in Las Vegas against No. 6 Kentucky, it will be as part of the third annual CBS Sports Classic.
The event–which has pitted the Tar Heels against traditional college basketball powerhouses UCLA, Kentucky and Ohio State–was renewed for another three years on Monday.
This means that through 2019, those same four schools will play each other in a round-robin format just as they have over the last three seasons.
Since 2006, each team has appeared in at least two Final Fours, while also having played in at least one national championship game.
In two CBS Sports Classic appearances so far, the Tar Heels are unbeaten in the event–dispatching Ohio State two years ago and UCLA during last season’s campaign.
UNC is slated to take on Ohio State in 2017, Kentucky in 2018 and UCLA in 2019 as part of the event’s renewal.
Next year’s games will take place in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center, with the dates and locations yet to be determined for the following years.

Art's Angle: Trench FightingThe ironies were unmistakable. UNC men’s basketball coach Hubert Davis said before the game that rebounding would be a key to victory, and while Kentucky’s size and athleticism were superior to Carolina’s, a botched rebound by two colliding Tar Heels (Cormac Ryan and Jae’Lyn Withers) cost them a key possession with 1:08 left in the […]

Art’s Angle: False PositivesSince we’re in the era of COVID, let’s say that Carolina’s performance in Las Vegas against Kentucky was a series of false positives. […]
