UNC senior Luke Maye has been named the Preseason ACC Player of the Year, as voted by media members at ACC Media Day in Charlotte earlier this week.

The Huntersville, North Carolina native emerged as a star for the Tar Heels last season, averaging 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Maye was also named Preseason ACC Player of the Year by Sports Illustrated and was named a Preseason First-Team All-American by USA Today as well.

Maye received 50 votes for Preseason Player of the Year, followed by Duke freshman RJ Barrett with 20 votes. Barrett was also named Preseason Rookie of the Year.

Joining Maye on the All-ACC First-Team were Duke’s Barrett, Syracuse’s Tyus Battle, Virginia’s Kyle Guy and Boston College’s Ky Bowman.

In addition to the individual accolades, media members voted on the predicted order of finish in the ACC following the 2018-19 season. Duke was voted as the preseason favorite and received 52 of 121 possible first-place votes. Virginia was voted second with 47 votes, followed by North Carolina at third with 20 votes. Syracuse and Clemson also received a single vote apiece.
