For the first time in program history, the UNC men’s tennis team was ranked No. 1 in the Tennis Channel/USTA Top 25 rankings released on Wednesday following a red-hot start to the 2020 campaign.
The Tar Heels are 6-0 to this point, and have yet to lose a doubles or singles match during any of their dual wins.
“It’s an honor to be voted the No. 1 team in the Tennis Channel/USTA poll, but we’re just focused on being the best team we can be,” UNC head coach Sam Paul said. “We know there are a lot of tremendous teams out there. We’ve got to keep pushing the envelope, and we’ve got to stay healthy.”
After defeating a pair of ranked teams this past weekend in No. 19 Illinois and No. 13 South Carolina, the Tar Heels take their first road trip of the season this Sunday to take on No. 12 TCU.
Rounding out the top five behind UNC is a group including: No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Florida and No. 5 USC.
