UNC has officially signed new basketball head coach Hubert Davis to a 5-year contract through June 2026.

Davis was hired on April 5 after spending the past nine season as an assistant coach on Roy Williams’ staff. Williams announced his retirement at the beginning of the month after 48 seasons of coaching — the past 18 of which were spent with the Tar Heels.

Davis’ base salary is $400,000 — while his supplemental compensation begins at $600,000 in the first year and increases by $100,000 each subsequent year. In total, it brings his total income to more than $1 million per year.

In addition, his manufacturer agreement with Nike pays $250,000 annually, while Davis’ multimedia agreement with Learfield IMG College pays $500,000 annually. Those agreements combine for $3.75 million over five years.

Davis is also eligible for bonuses up to $1,075,000 as followed:

  • ACC Coach of the Year — $25,000
  • National Coach of the Year — $50,000
  • APR ≥ 975 — $75,000
  • ACC Regular Season Champion — $50,000
  • ACC Tournament Champion — $50,000
  • NCAA Tournament Participation — $25,000
  • NCAA Round of 32 — $75,000
  • NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 — $75,000
  • NCAA Tournament Elite Eight — $200,000
  • NCAA Tournament Final Four — $200,000
  • NCAA Tournament Championship — $250,000

Davis’ $1.95 million annual total compensation ranks 13th among ACC men’s basketball coaches, according USA Today. Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski leads the ACC at $7 million in annual compensation per year and Roy Williams was previously second at $4.16 million.

Davis played for the Tar Heels and legendary coach Dean Smith from 1988-92 and joined Williams’ staff for nine seasons.

“The foundation is set here at Carolina and it’s a foundation that I believe in,” Davis said at his introductory press conference. “It’s a foundation that has been tested and tried and proven successful through Coach Smith, Coach [Bill] Guthridge and Coach Williams. I’ve got no desire, I’ve got no plans of going away from that foundation, because I believe in it.”
