The second-ranked UNC field hockey team continued its early-season success on Friday morning in Philadelphia, pulling out a 1-0 shutout victory over the No. 10 Princeton Tigers to remain undefeated.
Megan DuVernois tipped in a shot over the left shoulder of Princeton goalie Grace Baylis with just over five minutes remaining to give the Tar Heels their third straight victory to open the 2018 campaign–all of which have come against ranked opponents.
It was also the second goal of the season for DuVernois, a Pennsylvania native returning to play in her home state.
Neither team built much of an advantage over the other before that critical goal, as UNC finished with just 10 shots all game while Princeton tallied only seven.
