A 3-2 victory over the No. 4 seed Wake Forest Demon Deacons Thursday afternoon was enough to send the fifth-seeded Tar Heels to the semifinals of the ACC Field Hockey Tournament in Louisville.

Ashley Hoffman, Feline Guenther and Marissa Creatore each scored a goal for UNC (14-4), which moves on to face top-seeded Virginia in the next round.

Hoffman scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season less than five minutes into the game, off of a penalty corner attempt.

After the 1-0 UNC lead held for quite some time, the Demon Deacons responded by scoring off of a penalty corner attempt as well–this one with just over 30 seconds until the halftime break.

In the second half, Guenther broke the tie when her shot deflected off a Wake Forest defender and into the back of the net. Creatore then extended the lead with her goal 10 minutes later.

Another penalty corner helped the Demon Deacons cut their two-goal deficit in half as time winded down, but the Tar Heels were able to prevent any other goals–extending their tournament run in the process.
