Five-star guard Deja Kelly–who committed to play her college basketball at UNC back in November–was selected as a McDonald’s All-American on Thursday, one of 24 women’s players selected to the most prestigious high school All-Star game in the country.

Kelly is a 5-foot-8 guard from Duncanville High School in Dallas. She is currently listed at No. 17 overall and No. 5 at her position according to ESPN’s Class of 2020 rankings.

“Deja has been a nationally-ranked and highly-recognized player for many years and is among the very best shooters in the 2020 class,” UNC head coach Courtney Banghart said upon signing Kelly in November. “A gym rat, she continues to develop additional layers to her game and the sky is the limit to her talent. Deja is a shot-maker and a relentless scorer from behind the arc and in the mid-range. Her handle and high basketball IQ enable her to create her own and to make others better.  We will lean on her to score early and throughout her career and also to handle the ball in the combo guard spot.”

Kelly is one of five players joining the UNC roster next season, joining forwards Anya Poole and Ali Zelaya–as well as guard Kennedy Todd-Williams and wing Alyssa Ustby.

This year’s McDonald’s All-American Game is scheduled to take place in Houston on April 1.
