All the UNC baseball team needed to clinch its second consecutive ACC Coastal Division title this weekend was win two out of its three games against Virginia Tech, and it wouldn’t matter what else happened.

The Tar Heels took care of the first part of their business by defeating the Hokies 9-1 in Thursday’s series opener, but they also received some help later on when second-place Duke came up short against Georgia Tech.

Since the Blue Devils lost, UNC now clinches the division crown no matter what the results of its final two games are.

It marks the seventh time the Tar Heels have accomplished the feat and first time they’ve gone back-to-back with it since 2012 and 2013.

Now, the attention will shift to earning the No. 1 overall seed in the ACC Tournament. UNC is currently tied with Clemson atop the overall conference standings with equal 20-8 records against league opponents, but also holds the tiebreaker over the Tigers with just two games left to play for each team.
