The UNC women’s soccer team added to its prolific history on Monday night with an NCAA championship win over Wake Forest, 1-0, in the College Cup. Afterward, the Tar Heel community took to social media to celebrate and offer their congratulations.
The victory, earned off sophomore Olivia Thomas’ set piece goal in the 62nd minute, marked the 23rd national title won by Carolina women’s soccer and its first since 2012 — the longest drought between titles since the NCAA College Cup was created.

With the @uncwomenssoccer NCAA title today, every four-year @UNC student who enrolled since 1977 has been on campus for at least one @goheels national title.
Those original students are now 65 years old.#GDTBATH

The 22 NCAA championships by @uncwomenssoccer are twice as many as any other program has won as members of the ACC. Of course it’s pretty cool that @UNCFieldHockey is the team that is second all time in ACC history with 11. #GoHeels
