Tuesday morning marked the announcement of the official 18-player roster for Team USA for the upcoming Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup, which will be played from July 21-Aug. 5 in London.

Of those 18 players, though, six of them–or one-third of the entire roster–are current or former UNC players who played under head coach Karen Shelton.

Rising senior Ashley Hoffman and freshman Erin Matson represent the Tar Heels who are still in college, while former Tar Heel standouts Julia Young, Caitlin Von Sickle, Lauren Moyer and Jackie Briggs will join them in making the trip across the pond.

For Briggs, it will be her second World Cup appearance. The other five UNC players, however, are making their first ever appearance at the competition.

Team USA is currently ranked No. 7 in the world, and is scheduled to begin play at the World Cup on July 21 against No. 16 Ireland. Other teams in the same pool as the U.S. include: No. 2 England and No. 10 India.
