As part of the 2020 Voting Playbook by Yahoo Sports, UNC head men’s basketball and football coaches — Roy Williams and Mack Brown — took part in a video explaining what you need to know in order to vote in North Carolina in this upcoming election.
The Voting Playbook has sports stars related to each state explaining similar details about their state’s election system. In North Carolina’s video, Brown reminds viewers that the deadline to register is Oct. 9 for those who wish to do so online or by mail. The in-person registration deadline is Oct. 31.
Williams then walks viewers through how to navigate the NC Board of Elections website, before Brown steps in to explain how to request an absentee ballot — stressing that the deadline to do so is Oct. 27.
All North Carolina absentee ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 in order to be counted.
For those who wish to vote in person, North Carolina is offering early voting from Oct. 15-31.
“Voting is very important,” Brown said. “If you’ve got an opinion about what’s going on in our country, and you want to be involved with it, you’ve got to vote. That’s the only way your voice is heard.”
“This is something that should be extremely important to all of us,” Williams said. “The chance to vote. The chance to have our voice. This is the United States of America. This is our way of doing things. This is democracy. Thank you for voting.”
Other college basketball head coaches are also featured in the Voting Playbook series. Kansas’ Bill Self, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, South Carolina’s Frank Martin and Texas’ Shaka Smart all shared details on their respective state’s voting policies and procedures.
