A day after it was originally scheduled, the North Carolina Tar Heels will be involved in a rare mid-week Top 25 matchup on Wednesday.
No. 15 UNC will face off with the eighth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday night after the game was delayed due to the rain throughout the day on Tuesday.
The Carolinas rivalry dates back to 1903 on the baseball field, with the Tar Heels holding a 62-35-1 record.
Wednesday is the first time since 2004 that the teams have played in the regular season. The two teams have squared off in the postseason twice in the last few years. UNC knocked off the Gamecoks in the NCAA Super Regional in 2007 and 2013, advancing to the College World Series on both occasions.
The Tar Heels enter the game on Wednesday with a 23-9 record, while South Carolina is 28-5.
UNC is scheduled to start left handed sophomore pitcher Hunter Williams.
The game is expected to draw a large crowd at the home of the Charlotte Knights, the AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
The rivalry matchup will air on ESPNU and will be streamed at goheels.com.
