Despite holding a 10-6 lead through seven innings, the UNC baseball team fell 11-10 to No. 11 East Carolina on Tuesday in Greenville–representing the Tar Heels’ fourth straight loss.

It was a painful way to cap a wild game filled with offense from both sides, as the two teams combined for 21 runs on 32 hits.

Through two innings, UNC (13-10) had already built a 6-4 lead behind a two-run blast from Danny Serretti and two RBIs apiece from Caleb Roberts and Johnny Castognozzi.

East Carolina (18-5) then tied it up in the fourth inning with a two-run homer, before the Tar Heels exploded in the sixth inning for three runs thanks to homers from Roberts and Angel Zarate.

Tyler Causey gave the Tar Heels their fourth home run of the evening in the seventh inning, as they extended their lead to four runs.

The Pirates refused to stay down, though, using a pair of home runs in the eighth inning to tie the game once again.

A single and two walks loaded the bases for East Carolina in the bottom of the ninth, where the Pirates would ultimately win the game on a walk-off single.

The Tar Heels have now lost four straight games for the first time under new head coach Scott Forbes and will end the season having split the two-game non-conference series against East Carolina.
