With a 4-1 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday in Chapel Hill, the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team clinched a berth in the 2021 ITA National Indoor Tournament–where the Tar Heels will attempt to defend the title they won in 2020.
The Rebels took the doubles point from the Tar Heels (3-0) to begin the match, but UNC responded with four straight singles victories to claim the victory.
Anika Yarlagaada was the first UNC player to win her singles match, doing so by a score of 6-0, 6-2. She was followed by Fiona Crawley (6-0, 6-1), Sara Daavettila (6-1, 6-2) and Cameron Morra (6-2, 7-6).
This also represented the 21st consecutive dual match victory for UNC, in a streak that dates back to last season before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
UNC’s run in the 2021 ITA National Indoor Tournament will begin on Feb. 5 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
