A total of nine current or former UNC women’s lacrosse players were among the pool of 50 selected Tuesday to try out for the U.S. National Team, which is preparing for the 2021 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship next summer.
The tryouts will take place from Dec. 4-6 at the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.
Of the nine Tar Heels selected, three are on the current roster–attacker Katie Hoeg, defender Emma Trenchard and midfielder Kerrigan Miller.
The list of former UNC stars includes: midfielders Marie McCool (2015-18) and Emily Parros (2010-13), defenders Kristen Carr (2007-10) and Courtney Waite (2012-15), attacker Molly Hendrick (2014-17) and goalkeeper Caylee Waters (2014-17).
UNC head coach Jenny Levy is also the head coach for the national team, so she will have no shortage of familiar faces to choose from.
The World Championship is scheduled for July 7-17, 2021, at Towson University–representing the first time the event has been held in the United States since 2005.
The U.S. has won the event each of the last three times it was played, in 2009, 2013 and 2017.
