United Soccer Coaches released its men’s All-American teams on Thursday, naming UNC senior defender Alex Comsia to the First Team and junior midfielder Mauricio Pineda to the Second Team.

This gives head coach Carlos Somoano 16 All-American selections from 13 different players over his eight-year tenure in charge of the Tar Heels.

Comsia, the ACC Defender of the Year, helped UNC field one of the nation’s top defenses all season long. He was tied for third on the team in minutes played, and was recently named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy–the award given to the national player of the year.

Pineda, meanwhile, was the anchor of the Tar Heel midfield. His five goals and four assists were both career highs.
