Mauricio Pineda and Alex Rose each scored a goal in the second half on Friday night in Chapel Hill to help the sixth-ranked UNC men’s soccer team rally for a 2-2 draw against the visiting Creighton Bluejays.
It was the first game the men’s team has played in the brand new on-campus stadium.
Creighton took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break thanks to a free kick goal from Yudai Tashiro and a tap-in on the goal line by Dominic Briggs. The Bluejays nearly won the game in the later stages when they had a shot hit off the crossbar in the 88th minute, but the Tar Heels managed to hang on defensively through both overtimes to earn the draw.
For the game, UNC totaled nine shots on goal compared to just four for Creighton.
