Thursday saw a pair of Tar Heel men’s golfers–senior Austin Hitt and sophomore Ryan Burnett–take two of the four available qualifying spots for the 2019 U.S. Amateur following a qualifying tournament at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill.
The 2019 U.S. Amateur takes place at Pinehurst No. 2 from Aug. 12-18.
Of the 102 golfers competing at Finley for the opportunity to play in the U.S. Amateur, Hitt and Burnett finished first and second, respectively.
In the two-round event, Hitt won with a score of 7-under-par. Burnett was just one stroke behind at 6-under-par.
The other two players to move on from the Chapel Hill qualifying event were Nick Dunlap of Greer, S.C., and Nick Lyerly of Salisbury, N.C.
