UNC redshirt junior Kennedy Monday earned an at-large bid on Tuesday to the upcoming NCAA Wrestling Championships, becoming the seventh Tar Heel to earn a spot in the prestigious event–which will be held this year at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis from March 19-21.
Monday will compete in his second career NCAA Championship tournament after posting a 20-8 record this year for UNC at 165 pounds. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, he won three matches in the event and came within one win of earning All-American status.
Prior to Monday’s inclusion, Jaime Hernandez (133 pounds), Zach Sherman (141), Austin O’Connor (149), A.C. Headlee (157), Clay Lautt (174) and Andrew Gunning (285) earned their spots in the tournament during this past weekend’s ACC Championships.
