UNC junior center Janelle Bailey was recognized Monday as the ACC Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday, following a pair of stellar performances in the Tar Heels’ wins over Virginia and Clemson this past week.
The Charlotte native had 23 points and a season-high 17 rebounds on Thursday against Virginia, before tallying 23 points and nine rebounds against Clemson on Sunday.
For the season, Bailey is averaging 15.6 points and 10 rebounds per game. This past week was the second time in her career she has racked up at least 20 points in back-to-back ACC games, and first time this season.
“Janelle was a dominant and consistent force in our sweep last week,” UNC head coach Courtney Banghart said. “She was incredibly efficient from the floor and rebounded in crowds and outside of her area the whole weekend. Watching Janelle mature as a player and find so many ways to help this team win has been such a joy. We’re so glad she’s a Tar Heel.”
She shared the ACC Player of the Week honors with Boston College’s Emma Gray.
