CHAPEL HILL – UNC Women’s Soccer star, senior midfielder Crystal Dunn, was named the nation’s best for her superb play on the field this past week.
Dunn was named Most Valuable Offensive Player of the 2013 Duke Nike Classic, scoring in both games, and leading Carolina to a pair of victories over top flight teams, UCLA and West Virginia. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America also named her the national player of the week.
She was at her best last weekend, helping UNC control possession in both games. In all, Carolina outshot the Bruins, 23-6, and the Mountaineers by a whopping 19-3 margin.
Dunn is no stranger to big accolades, having earned the National Player of the Year Award and the ESPY award for best female college athlete coming off her inspiring performance in the 2012 NCAA tournament that ended in yet another championship moment for the Tar Heels.
The next chance for Tar Heel fans to savor Crystal Dunn’s magic will be Thursday night as Carolina opens ACC play with a road trip up to Blacksburg to take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech.
