Elon University announced Tuesday that it has paused all men’s basketball activities for at least 14 days due to a positive COVID-19 test among its Tier 1 personnel group, which includes student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.

This means that the scheduled game on Dec. 12 at the Smith Center between UNC and Elon has been postponed, along with three other Elon games against Mercer, Duke and Howard.

“As we have said since the onset of COVID, the safety of our student-athletes is paramount and we will follow the guidance of our medical staff in making these decisions,” Elon Director of Athletics Dave Blank said. “We will continue to monitor the situation and make arrangements that will return our team to practice and competition when it is safe to do so.”

The school said Tuesday is working to make adjustments to the schedule and will make announcements about any changes that come to fruition.

UNC has not yet released any comment on the postponement of the men’s basketball game.
