After being passed over in favor of Hubert Davis for the men’s basketball head coaching job at UNC, former Tar Heel Wes Miller was hired Wednesday as the head coach at Cincinnati.
The 38-year-old Miller was previously the head coach at UNC-Greensboro for the last 10 seasons–compiling a record of 185-135 while taking the Spartans to a pair of NCAA Tournaments.
A former walk-on at UNC under Roy Williams, Miller was widely regarded as one of the top two candidates to take over the top job in Chapel Hill before Davis was ultimately selected.
He now takes over a Cincinnati program which made nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2011-2019 and is consistently near the top of the American Athletic Conference.
The Bearcats went just 12-11 this past season, however, before firing head coach John Brannen.
