Brice Johnson has been named third-team All-American by the Sporting News.
The three teams were released on Wednesday, headlined by the first team made up of Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon, Oklahoma forward Buddy Hield, Utah’s Jakob Poeltl, Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis and Michigan State senior Denzel Valentine.
Duke’s Grayson Allen was placed on the second team by Sporting News.
Johnson is joined on the third team by Iowa State senior Georges Niang, Oakland University’s Kay Felder, Kansas forward Perry Ellis and Oregon’s Dillon Brooks.
A first or second team selection for Johnson would have meant his jersey would be honored in the rafters of the Dean E. Smith Center. He can still receive that honor by being chosen for the first or second teams by the Associated Press, US Basketball Writers Association or the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Other parameters for having a jersey honored include being a member of a gold medal-winning Olympic team, MVP of a National Championship-winning team, ACC Player of the Year or NCAA Tournament MOP.
Johnson was named first-team All-America by USA Today earlier this week.
UNC guard Marcus Paige, Johnson’s classmate, will have his jersey honored after he was named second-team All-America by the Sporting News following his sophomore season.
