UNC senior forward Brice Johnson has been named first-team All-America by USA Today.

The team, released on Monday, is the first of many similar lists to be released in the coming days.

Johnson was selected for the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team on Sunday.

Johnson averaged 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while accumulating 19 double-doubles on the season.

Johnson is joined by fellow seniors Buddy Hield of Oklahoma and Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine on the first team. Two sophomores round out the squad – Utah forward Jakob Poeltl and Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis.

Johnson was also named ACC Player of the Week by the conference on Monday for his performances against Syracuse and Duke. This is fourth time that Johnson won the weekly honor from the conference this season.

Johnson and the Tar Heels won the outright ACC Championship with a victory over Duke on Saturday and will be the number one seed in the conference tournament, which begins on Tuesday. Carolina has a double bye in the tournament.  The Tar Heels will play the winner of Syracuse and Pittsburgh at noon on Thursday.

Starting with Thursday’s Carolina game, all ACC Tournament games will be on 97.9 FM and 1360 AM WCHL.
