The Academic All-ACC Men’s Tennis Team was announced on Tuesday, with UNC junior Brian Cernoch and sophomore Rinky Hijikata each making the cut.
This marks the second time Cernoch has received the honor. It is the first such recognition for Hijikata — who advanced to the Round of 16 last month in his first appearance at the NCAA Singles Tournament.
Cernoch majors in Exercise and Sport Science, while Hijikata is studying Business Administration.
Eligibility for the Academic All-ACC team requires student-athletes to have a 3.0 grade point average in both their most recent semester and as a cumulative average throughout their college careers. Athletic achievements are also taken into consideration.
The Tar Heels went 21-4 this season and were briefly ranked No. 1 in the country back in February after winning the ITA National Indoor Tournament. UNC advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Team Tournament as the No. 6 overall seed before falling in a tight match to Georgia.
Tar Heels Brian Cernoch & Rinky Hijikata both grabbed spots on the Academic All-ACC Team today.
