The Chapel Hill Town Council approved a request that allows the construction of a mini golf and go karting facility off Eubanks Road during its meeting Wednesday night.

The town’s elected officials voted unanimously in favor of the conditional zoning request for a Putt Putt Fun Center, as well as a self-storage facility and indoor recreation center. Amenities like an arcade, mini bowling, laser tag and a ropes course could be included in the recreation center.

Council member Jessica Anderson was absent for the meeting, marking the only council member not to vote on Wednesday.

Located north of Carraway Village and just off of Interstate 40, the Putt Putt Fun Center will be built off a road soon to be constructed.

The developers accepted one stipulation discussed with the Chapel Hill Town Council in the past. The Putt Putt Fun Center will use electric go-karts instead of gasoline-powered ones, citing less noise disruption for the nearby Carraway Village and a better environmental impact.

Representatives for the Putt Putt Fun Center project say general hours of operation will be set for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during peak summer season. Weekend hours could extend until 11 p.m.
