UNC freshman center Armando Bacot was named Friday as one of 20 watch list candidates for this year’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which has been presented annually over the last five years to the top center in college basketball.

Bacot arrives in Chapel Hill as a McDonald’s All-American, and is expected to begin his collegiate career in the Tar Heel starting lineup–joining junior Garrison Brooks in the frontcourt.

He is the third UNC player to be included on the watch list for their position’s respective awards, joining Brooks (Karl Malone Award) and freshman point guard Cole Anthony (Bob Cousy Award).

All of these awards are affiliated with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
