A late goal from UNC-Wilmington’s Adam Hillis off a corner kick pushed the Seahawks in front of visiting Carolina, and UNC-W would hold the lead for the final 8:19 to send UNC to its third loss in five games.

The Seahawks played with 10 men for the final 36 minutes of the game due to a red card, but still managed to score two goals after losing a player.

Carolina seemed to have salvaged a draw from the game, with Tim Schels scoring just the second goal of his career in the 80th minute to tie the score at 1-1. But Hillis’ goal, the second set-piece goal given up by Carolina during the game, ensured a defeat for UNC. The Tar Heels only managed one shot against the shorthanded Seahawks for the rest of the game.

As in previous games, Carolina held an advantage in shots, taking 11 to UNC-W’s six, and taking eight corner kicks to just two for the Seahawks. For the season, the Tar Heels have outshot their opponents 177-36, yet only hold a 5-3-1 record.

UNC will be back in action Sunday, October 3 when they host NC State at Dorrance Field at 7 p.m. The Tar Heels will look to get back to .500 in ACC play against the visiting Wolfpack.
