After two years in Chapel Hill, UNC men’s basketball guard Seth Trimble has entered his name into the transfer portal. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next school. Trimble made the announcement via Instagram on Tuesday afternoon.

“The relationships and memories I have experienced at this university will forever have a special place in my heart,” Trimble said.

The younger brother of former Tar Heel standout J.P. Tokoto, Trimble appeared in 68 games in the past two seasons for Carolina. Mainly known as a defensive specialist, Trimble averaged 17.1 minutes per game this season, nearly double his total as a true freshman. Trimble also increased his scoring to 5.2 points per game and made 13 of his 31 three-point attempts (41.9 percent).

Coming off the bench for all but one game this season, Trimble never played more than 25 minutes in any contest. But in Carolina’s season-ending loss to Alabama in the Sweet 16, Trimble played just 11 minutes, tied for his lowest workload of the season.

Trimble is the second Tar Heel to enter the transfer portal this offseason, after reserve forward James Okonkwo did so earlier in April. Fellow guards Elliot Cadeau and R.J. Davis, both of whom have years of eligibility remaining, have not yet announced decisions.
