Carolina now knows its path to a potential fifth Maui Invitational championship this November. The Tar Heels will face Dayton in the tournament’s first round on November 25.

Tip-off between the Tar Heels and Flyers is scheduled for 11:30 p.m. Eastern time (6:30 p.m. Hawai’i time), following the conclusion of the night session’s first game between Auburn and Iowa State, which tips at 9 p.m. Eastern. The winner of Carolina and Dayton will face the winner between the Tigers and Cyclones the next night at 11 p.m. Eastern, with the losers facing off at 8:30 p.m. Eastern the same night.

The other side of the draw features Colorado, Memphis, Michigan State and two-time defending national champions UConn. The Tar Heels faced both the Spartans and Huskies last season, defeating Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and falling to UConn in the Jimmy V Classic in New York.

Carolina won the Maui Invitational in the 1999-2000, 2004-05, 2008-09 and 2016-17 seasons. This will be the first time the Tar Heels have visited Hawai’i since the 2016-17 championship, as the 2020-21 Maui Invitational was moved to Asheville due to the COVID pandemic. Overall, UNC is 22-4 all-time in Maui Invitational play.

The first-round matchup with Dayton will be Carolina’s game against the Flyers since the final of the 2010 NIT, which Dayton won 79-68. UNC is just 1-2 overall against Dayton.
