The first iteration of college football’s USA Today Coaches Poll was released Monday afternoon, and though the ACC was well-represented, UNC was not among the Top 25. The Tar Heels did, however, receive a noticeable amount of votes with 34. That was good enough to effectively rank Carolina at No. 33 in the poll, just ahead of programs such as Florida, Mississippi State and Appalachian State.

Elsewhere in the poll, five ACC teams are ranked: Clemson at No. 4, NC State at No. 13, Pitt at No. 16, Miami at No. 17 and Wake Forest at No. 19. Carolina will face four of those five teams in 2021, with Clemson being the only exception. In addition Notre Dame came in at No. 5. The Fighting Irish will visit Kenan Stadium on September 24.

While several ACC coaches, including NC State’s Dave Doeren and Duke’s Mike Elko, are voters in the Coaches Poll, UNC head coach Mack Brown is not. Carolina’s season officially begins August 27 in Kenan Stadium, when the Tar Heels will host Florida A&M.
