Just one day after hiring Randy Clements as its new offensive line coach, the UNC football program has made another hire. The Tar Heels announced Chip Lindsey as their new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Thursday morning.

โ€œWe couldnโ€™t be more excited to welcome Chip, his wife Cecily, and their four children, Claire, Caroline, Cooper and Conner, to the Carolina football family,โ€ said UNC head coach Mack Brown. โ€œChip is well-versed in UNCโ€™s offensive style of play and he has a wealth of experience working with some of the greatest offensive minds in the country. You can see that in the way his offenses play.”

Lindsey served as the offensive coordinator for UCF in 2022. The Knights ranked 11th in the nation in total offense this season, averaging 480 yards and 34 points per game. They were particularly deadly on the ground, averaging 236 yards rushing per game (eighth in the country) and rushing for 200 or more yards nine times. UCF’s 33 rushing touchdowns ranked 10th nationally.

Lindsey is also experienced as a head coach, spending three seasons leading Troy’s program. The Trojans featured some of the most prolific offenses in the country during his tenure, ranking 18th nationally in 2019 and 21st in 2020. Before coaching at Troy, Lindsey served as offensive coordinator at Auburn, Arizona State and Southern Miss.

UNC quarterback Drake Maye tweeted about his excitement in working with Lindsey:

In addition to the hiring of Lindsey and Clements, Carolina also added the title of pass game coordinator to wide receiver coach Lonnie Galloway and the title of run game coordinator to tight end coach John Lilly.

โ€œCoach Galloway and Coach Lilly have done amazing jobs for our program,” Brown said. “Each one has excelled in their areas of responsibility and they are key assets to the success of our program. Iโ€™m very appreciative of their hard work, and as a result, theyโ€™ve earned these additions to their titles and job descriptions.โ€
