The UNC field hockey team completed an unbeaten road trip Sunday at Old Dominion, beating the Monarchs 2-1 in a meeting of the two most successful programs in NCAA field hockey history. Carolina has now won three consecutive games away from home.

Paityn Wirth put the Tar Heels ahead after just 3:42, but it wouldn’t be until the early fourth quarter that Carolina would find some critical insurance. Charly Bruder’s goal 1:39 into the final period proved to be the difference, as the Monarchs scored less than four minutes later to draw the deficit back to 2-1.

Lehigh graduate transfer Maddie Kahn stood tall in the UNC goal, making seven saves on the day and keeping Old Dominion at just a single goal. Kahn’s seven saves are more than she made in her previous three appearances this season combined.

Carolina is now 4-1 and has won three games in a row after falling to Iowa in overtime on August 27. UNC will return home against Louisville on Friday at 3 p.m. for Alumni Day.
