The Diamond Heels blew out NC State for the second straight day at Boshamer Stadium on Saturday, finishing off an emphatic three-game sweep of the Wolfpack in the final home series of the regular season.

The outcome was never in doubt, as Carolina built a 3-0 lead in the first inning and expanded that to as large as 11-0 by the bottom of the fifth. The enormous advantage was built without the home run, as the Tar Heels relied instead on RBI singles and sacrifice flies. The 12th run was scored via a double play, meaning UNC’s onslaught came without a single RBI extra-base hit.

On the mount, Jake Knapp was excellent in earning his fourth win of the season. Knapp logged six innings while allowing just five hits. Knapp even endured some extra scrutiny, as the Wolfpack dugout asked for umpires to inspect him for any foreign substances.

A trio of Tar Heel pitchers each contributed a shutout inning in relief to finish off the Carolina win, its fifth in a row over the Wolfpack and also fifth in a row overall.

Carolina is now 33-17 on the season and 14-11 in conference. The weekend sweep guarantees the Tar Heels will finish at least .500 in ACC play, as UNC has only three games at Clemson remaining. Before Carolina can visit the Tigers, it will head south to face Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Chanticleers won in Chapel Hill earlier this season.
