The UNC football and baseball programs each recorded perfect Academic Progress Rates of 1,000 for the 2020-21 school year, the university announced Tuesday. It’s the first time either program has recorded a perfect APR since the metric was first used in 2003. It also marks the second straight year in which the football program recorded its highest-ever APR.

The football and baseball programs were two of eight men’s teams to record perfect APRs, which is tied for the most in a single year in school history. Carolina is one of only two schools in the country whose football, men’s basketball and baseball teams each recorded perfect APRs.

Ten UNC women’s programs, including women’s soccer and women’s tennis, did the same. It’s the ninth time ten or more UNC women’s teams have accomplished the feat in a single year.

In addition, eight UNC programs recorded four-year rates of 1,000, an increase from five in 2019-20. These programs include both the golf teams, both the soccer teams and women’s swimming and diving.

Of UNC’s 28 varsity programs, 24 scored at least a 980 and 21 achieved at least a 990. The women’s fencing team has recorded an APR of 1,000 in all 18 years the metric has been measured, while women’s golf has done it 17 times and volleyball 16 times. The men’s golf team’s 1,000 was its sixth in a row, the longest active streak among all men’s programs
