The UNC men’s basketball program has made its first splash in the transfer portal. Paxson Wojcik, a transfer from Brown with one year of eligibility remaining, announced his commitment to Carolina Monday afternoon.

Wojcik had a career year with the Bears this season, averaging 14.9 points per game and shooting 38 percent on three-pointers. In his career, which includes two seasons with Loyola Chicago, Wojcik has made a name for himself with his efficient shooting: he’s never finished a season shooting below 50 percent on two-point shots.

Wojcik was a starter on the Brown team which took Carolina to the wire in Hubert Davis’ third game as head coach. Wojcik scored 14 points and helped the Bears to a 50-47 halftime lead. UNC eventually mounted a comeback and won 94-87. The more astute observers on Twitter will notice Wojcik’s profile picture is a still from the broadcast of the game.

Wojcik also has a family connection to Carolina. His father Doug served as an assistant coach with the Tar Heels for three seasons under head coach Matt Doherty. Doug Wojcik currently serves on the coaching staff at Michigan State.

As of Monday, Wojcik’s commitment leaves Carolina with five open scholarship spots on its roster.
