The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles announced Thursday that they have placed former UNC wide receiver Mack Hollins on the injured reserve list after he suffered a setback in his recovery from a groin injury that kept him out for most of the preseason.

As a result, Hollins will have to sit out at least eight weeks and won’t be eligible to return until Week Nine–a prime-time showdown at home with the Dallas Cowboys in town.

Hollins caught 16 passes for 226 yards last season–including a 64-yard touchdown reception–after being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

With the Eagles trading receiver Torrey Smith to the Carolina Panthers this offseason, Hollins was expected to move into a bigger role in 2018–especially with Philadelphia hiring wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer away from UNC.

Surgery for a sports hernia during the summer, and now the nagging groin injury, have limited Hollins’ progression, however.
